New allergy vaccine works in a matter of weeks
Researchers at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research say they've developed a vaccine that delivers antigens directly into immune cells. The work could revolutionize allergy treatments, replacing years of injections with a new approach that could work in a matter of weeks. The antigens trigger an immune response, building the body's ability to ward off an allergy. Because antigens are delivered precisely, the new approach also dramatically reduces the amount of vaccine required for a therapeutic effect. The technology requires a molecule that includes a translocation unit, a targeting unit along with an allergen.
