Millipore in $1.6B makeover as life sciences supplier
Millipore is expanding on its reputation as a filtration supplier to scientific labs around the globe. Known for purified water and filters, Millipore has leveraged several buyouts to increase its offerings to a range of investigative tools for drug research. The company supplies a range of biopharma research operations, including investigators at Pfizer, Biogen Idec and Genzyme, according to a recent profile in the Boston Globe. In a bid to radically transform itself, Millipore went on a buying spree, acquiring Serologicals, Newport Bio Systems, NovAseptic and MicroSafe for more than $1.6 billion. And it's launched a marketing campaign to get the word out.
