Houston hospital launches bioinformatics project
The Methodist Hospital in Houston made a multimillion-dollar commitment when it wooed bioinformatics expert Stephen Wong from Harvard. Wong is the founding director of The Center of Bioinformatics at Harvard's medical school. He says the new gig in Houston will give him the opportunity to test the limits of bioinformatics in helping identify the development of a new generation of personalized medicine.
Wong's arrival at The Methodist Hospital also signifies just how serious the facility is in creating a new research institute following its 2004 split with the Baylor College of Medicine. Methodist has invested about $100 million in its research ops and plans to sink as much as half a billion dollars into its effort.
